Hatebe was the center of her tribe, the child of a god and venerated as the one person that could speak on behalf of the ancestors of her land. But when a group of alien people come from across the ocean and invade the coastal lands of sixteenth century Costa Rica, Hatebe will learn that the path that one thinks they will take is not always the path that is meant for them. Paying homage to the epic storytelling of Jean Auel and the poetic cadence of Paulo Coelho, A Sleeping Moon explores the sweeping jungles and tumbling plains of Costa Rica atthe dawn of Spanish exploration through the eyes of a Brunka woman on the front lines the fight.

A Dreaming Moon Children of The Moon Book 1 edition by Tami Lynne Literature Fiction eBooks

Wow! Is this really a first novel? In A Dreaming Moon, Ms. Lynne shows that she understands the flow of the novel form, character development, plotting (along with masterful sub-plotting), dialogue, and creating the tension and conflict that keep readers up late hoping to finish in one sitting.

Her protagonist, Hatebe, is a healer and a goddess, the child of her mother and a god of the tribe, destined to lead her people. She is a well-drawn character, more like a photograph than a drawing. Along the path to her destiny she must overcome danger from outside her land, from the European invaders, her emotions and self-doubt. All of the secondary characters important to the continuing story are rendered in an abbreviated form of the portrayal of Hatebe.

Most impressive though, to me, is the lyrical lilt of her style, which is maintained from the first sentence to the last. No first novel should be this good and this well written.

On personal and literary levels - 1. I do not like historical fiction. 2. I do not like novels from a feminine perspective. 3. I could not put this book down 4. Already started reading the second book in the series.

A job well done, Tami Lynne.
